TrigTutor.org is built on a simple principle: your learning experience should never come at the cost of your privacy. We collect only what we need, protect what we have, and never sell your data.

No Data Sales

We never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

๐Ÿ“Š

Aggregate Analytics Only

We use aggregate, anonymized data to improve the platform. We do not build individual user profiles for tracking.

๐Ÿ”

Minimal Collection

We only collect information necessary for account security, service delivery, and Canadian tax compliance.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Canadian-Based

We operate under Canadian privacy law. Your data is stored securely and governed by PIPEDA standards.

1 Our Privacy Philosophy

TrigTutor.org exists to teach trigonometry, not to harvest data. We are fundamentally opposed to the surveillance-based business models that dominate the internet. Our revenue comes from subscriptions, not from selling your attention or personal information to advertisers.

We do not run ads. We do not use tracking pixels. We do not sell data to third parties. We do not build individual behavioral profiles. Period.

We believe that a learning platform has a special responsibility to protect its users โ€” many of whom are students. Education and privacy are not in conflict; they reinforce each other.

2 Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide our service, secure your account, and comply with tax law. Here is a complete list:

  • Username โ€” Required. Used to identify your account. Can be any name you choose.
  • Email address โ€” Required for account holders. Used for account recovery, password resets, and critical service updates (such as billing issues). We will never use your email for marketing unless you explicitly opt in.
  • Phone number โ€” Optional. If provided, it can be used as an additional method for account recovery and two-factor authentication.
  • Password โ€” Required. Stored using industry-standard hashing (never in plain text).
  • Province/territory โ€” Required for Canadian users. Used exclusively for HST/GST tax calculation.
  • Payment information โ€” Processed by our payment provider. We do not store your credit card number or cryptocurrency wallet details on our servers.
  • Aggregate usage data โ€” We collect anonymized, aggregate statistics such as total lesson views, popular topics, and general geographic distribution. This data cannot be used to identify individual users.

We require an email address for registered accounts. This is essential for us to help you recover your account if you forget your password, and to notify you about important changes to your subscription. Without a recovery method, a lost password would mean permanent loss of your account and subscription.

3 Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit about what we do NOT collect:

  • Real name โ€” Not required. Your username can be anything.
  • Home address โ€” Not collected.
  • GPS or precise location โ€” Not collected. Province is only for tax compliance.
  • Device fingerprints โ€” We do not fingerprint your browser or device.
  • Browsing history outside TrigTutor.org โ€” We have no idea what you do elsewhere.
  • Social media profiles โ€” We do not request or access these.
  • Biometric data โ€” Not collected.
  • Individual learning analytics for third parties โ€” Your learning progress is private to you.

4 How We Use Your Information

Information we collect is used exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Account management โ€” To create, maintain, and secure your account.
  • Account recovery โ€” To help you regain access if you forget your password or lose access to your account.
  • Service delivery โ€” To provide lessons, track your progress, and deliver the features you've paid for.
  • Tax compliance โ€” To calculate and remit Canadian HST/GST as required by law.
  • Platform improvement โ€” Using aggregate, anonymized data to understand which topics are popular, where users get stuck, and how to improve lessons.
  • Critical communications โ€” To notify you about billing issues, subscription changes, or security concerns. These are rare and essential.

We will never use your email for marketing spam, promotional newsletters, or "check out our new features" emails โ€” unless you explicitly opt in to receiving them.

5 Account Registration

TrigTutor.org offers both free and paid experiences:

  • Free tools (no account needed) โ€” Our calculators (Pythagorean Theorem, Unit Circle, SOHCAHTOA, Triangle Solver) and 25+ introductory lessons are accessible to everyone without creating an account.
  • Registered accounts โ€” To save progress, access Pro features, or take quizzes, you need an account. Registration requires a username, email address, and password. Phone number is optional.

We chose to require email addresses for account holders because we believe account security is a fundamental responsibility. Without a recovery mechanism, we would have no way to help users who lose access to their accounts โ€” and losing access to a paid subscription with no recovery option would be unacceptable.

Cryptocurrency payment is available as an additional privacy option for those who prefer not to use traditional payment methods.

6 Canadian Tax Compliance

TrigTutor.org is a Canadian company. Under Canadian tax law, we are required to charge and remit HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) or GST (Goods and Services Tax) on digital services provided to Canadian residents.

To comply with this requirement, we ask Canadian users to select their province or territory during registration. This information is used exclusively for tax calculation and is not shared with any third party.

Prices listed on TrigTutor.org are the total price you pay. We absorb the HST cost for Canadian customers so that all users worldwide pay the same flat rate โ€” $3/month (annual) or $5/month (monthly).

Non-Canadian users do not need to provide province information and are not charged any additional tax by us.

7 Payment Processing

Payment processing is handled by trusted third-party payment providers. We do not store credit card numbers, CVVs, or cryptocurrency wallet addresses on our servers.

  • Credit/debit card payments are processed through industry-standard PCI-compliant processors.
  • Cryptocurrency payments are processed through a separate provider that does not share your wallet information with us.

We receive only the information necessary to confirm your payment was successful and to manage your subscription (e.g., subscription status, expiration date, and a transaction ID).

8 Data Storage & Security

We follow the principle of minimal data storage:

  • Data is stored on secure servers with encryption at rest and in transit.
  • Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and are never stored in plain text.
  • Access to user data is strictly limited to essential service operations.
  • We do not maintain backups of data longer than necessary for disaster recovery.

If you delete your account, your personal data is permanently removed from our active systems. Anonymized, aggregate data (which cannot identify you) may be retained for platform analytics.

9 Third-Party Services

We are committed to minimizing third-party dependencies:

  • No advertising networks โ€” We do not serve ads or use ad tracking.
  • No tracking pixels โ€” We do not embed Facebook pixels, Google Analytics tracking, or any similar user-tracking technology.
  • No social login โ€” We do not offer "Sign in with Google/Facebook" because these services track your activity.
  • Payment processors โ€” We use payment processors that handle your financial information under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their policies.
  • Content delivery โ€” We may use a CDN (Content Delivery Network) to deliver content faster. CDNs process your IP address to route traffic but do not store personal information.
  • Google Fonts โ€” We use Google Fonts for typography. Google may collect your IP address when loading fonts. We may move to self-hosted fonts in the future to eliminate this dependency.

10 Cookies & Local Storage

TrigTutor.org uses minimal cookies and browser storage:

  • Session cookies โ€” Used to keep you logged in during your visit. These are essential and expire when you close your browser or log out.
  • Preference cookies โ€” Used to remember your settings (e.g., preferred calculator mode). These are stored locally and do not leave your device.
  • No tracking cookies โ€” We do not use cookies for advertising, user tracking, or analytics.

11 Your Rights & Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access โ€” You can view all personal data we hold about you from your account settings page.
  • Correction โ€” You can update your email, phone number, province, and password at any time from your account page.
  • Deletion โ€” You can delete your account at any time. This permanently removes your personal data from our active systems.
  • Data portability โ€” You can request a copy of your data by contacting us at privacy@trigtutor.org.
  • Use without an account โ€” You can use our free calculators and introductory lessons without creating an account or providing any personal information.

12 Children's Privacy

TrigTutor.org is an educational platform suitable for learners of all ages. However, we take the privacy of young users seriously:

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
  • Our minimal data collection approach means that even young users share very little information.
  • Parents or guardians can contact us at privacy@trigtutor.org to review, delete, or manage their child's account.

13 Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify users through the platform and, if applicable, via email. Minor clarifications or formatting changes will be updated without notification.

We will always maintain the core commitment: we do not sell your data, we do not track individual users for profit, and we collect only what is necessary.
